Chinese New Year Run 2009

2009 Chinese New Year Run

Chinese Hospital and the Chinatown YMCA joined together to fundraise for their capital projects to better serve the Chinatown community.  The Chinatown YMCA is renovating their existing building and the Chinese Hospital is building a replacement facility.  Chinese New Year Run was a community fundraiser that benefits the Chinatown YMCA’s youth programs and Chinese Hospital’s building campaign.  This year’s race was the 30th annual run for the Chinatown YMCA and the first for Chinese Hospital.

The run occurred on Sunday, February 15th, 2009, which brought  over a 1000 runners. Chinese Hospitals team ( about 100 runners ). came out in the pouring rain to celebrate the Year of the Ox and walked for a great cause raising  $16,000 to benefit Chinese Hospital’s capital campaign.

Presented by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the scenic route started on Kearny Street between Sacramento and Clay Street, through Chinatown and North Beach, and finished on Kearny Street at Clay.

Thanks to the contributors and sponsors, we raised over $16,000.  Chinese Community Health Plan, Ruiz Construction, Ecospan, and CBS Outdoor were among the top sponsors.
